Aaaaaargh maties!

How many of you went to the “Real Pirates” exhibit in the Franklin Institute yesterday?  If you haven’t heard, Matt decided that it did qualify for your expense account as it really is American history.  The slave ship Whydah was captured by pirates on the route to the New World and went down off Cape Cod in the early 18th Century.  It is not only the only pirate ship ever to be found in American waters, it is apparently the only pirate ship ever to have actual treasure taken out of it.  That treasure isn’t all that impressive after 300 years at the bottom of the sea, but the story really is.  There are more than a few Pirates of the Caribbean elements to it, but the exhibit is quite informative.

Anyways, I think it was Chris who told me that she asked and it is coming to Denver, but I checked the Denver Museum of Nature and Science web site and there’s no way it’s getting there before next summer.  So if you didn’t go, you might want to slip this into your incredibly busy schedule.

For more detail and info, the exhibit web site is here.
